CoreSite to Expand Boston Data Center – Any2 NE to Boston

February 4, 2010 at 6:13 pm

CoreSite will be expanding our Boston data center in Q2′2010, adding 12,000SF of new data center space, security upgrades, and re-designed public-use areas.

Additionally, CoreSite’s Any2 Northeast will be extended to Boston by the end of March 2010, providing interconnection opportunities between CoreSite’s Boston, New York, Northern Virginia, and Washington, DC data centers.

The official release is below.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

CORESITE TO EXPAND ITS BOSTON DATA CENTER

The Boston data center expansion will include 12,000 square feet of raised floor space, access to CoreSite’s Any2 Northeast Internet exchange, and enhanced security features.

Denver, CO – February 4, 2010 – National data center, colocation and peering provider, CoreSite, announced today the expansion of its Boston data center located at 70 Innerbelt Road in Somerville, Massachusetts. The project includes an additional 12,000 square feet of data center space and power to be delivered in the second quarter of 2010.

The additional wholesale data center and cage-to-cabinet colocation space will be capable of cooling high performance computing environments and will feature access to CoreSite’s Any2 Northeast Internet exchange. Any2 Northeast is a distributed exchange point that facilitates interconnection between CoreSite’s Boston, New York, Northern Virginia and Washington, DC data centers.

CoreSite will also further enhance the data center’s security with additional mantraps and biometric scanners, and gated, access-controlled parking with perimeter fencing. CoreSite received a SAS 70 Type II certification at the data center in March 2009.

“The additional wholesale data center and colocation space will meet the growing demands of our existing customer base and prospective New England enterprises,” commented David Dunn, CoreSite’s senior vice president of marketing and business development. “We anticipate having the entire expansion phase completed and ready for occupancy by the end of May 2010.”

CoreSite’s Any2 Northeast is Live in DC, NoVA, and NYC

January 8, 2010 at 9:43 am

CoreSite wishes the Any2 community a very Happy New Year!

We are pleased to announce CoreSite’s Any2 Northeast exchange is live and ready for peering between CoreSite data centers at 12100 Sunrise Valley Drive in Northern Virginia, 1275 K Street in Washington, DC and 32 Avenue of the Americas in New York City (collectively “Any2 Northeast”).  Also, we are proud to announce the planned expansion of Any2 Northeast to CoreSite’s Boston data center (70 Innerbelt) by the end of Q1.

CoreSite is still accepting charter membership requests for Any2 Northeast. We encourage you to reach out to either Jerome Favis (Jerome.Favis@CoreSite.com) or Kevin Knight (Kevin.Knight@CoreSite.com) to discuss how Any2 Northeast could improve your network.

Happy peering and we wish you an excellent start to 2010!

Updated information on Any2 Northeast

November 18, 2009 at 3:31 pm

The Northeast Exchange is a regional Ethernet exchange supporting both Any2 public peering traffic and point-to-point Ethernet connections.  Here are some descriptions on the Any2 Northeast Exchange network:

  • Any2 is divided into 3 separate networks in the NE, with one of those networks operating as the distributed Any2 NE Exchange
    • 12100 Sunrise Valley (Reston) and 1275 K St (Washington, DC)– 206.51.40.0/24
    • 32 Ave. of the Americas (New York) – 206.51.45.0/24
    • 70 Innerbelt (Boston) – 206.51.42.0/24
  • Each location allows a network to peer within only that location (i.e. 70 Innerbelt participants within VLAN 103 only)
  • Each location allows a network to peer with all other networks on the NE Exchange, VLAN 101
  • We currently have route servers available on the NE Exchange (IP address range 206.51.40.0)
  • Any2 VLAN 101 supports FastE, GE, 10GE ports
  • Any2 VLAN 103 and 106 supports FastE, and GE

This discussion is relative to the Ethernet network which underlies Any2.  The Ethernet network will support the following interconnection types:

  • Point-to-point Ethernet.  This is for companies that want to use our long distance Ethernet as a bridge between their own POPs via a VLAN ID.  We establish a FastE or GE port, and deliver the connection at both ends.
  • Customer-to-customer Ethernet.  There is a customer in one data center desiring an Ethernet interconnection with a customer in another data center.  We establish a FastE or GE port, VLAN, and deliver the connection at both ends.
  • Customer Virtual Private Network in multiple cities.  If a customer is present in more than two facilities we can create a virtual private network using our Ethernet network to make the customer look as if they have a VPN established among all locations.  We establish a FastE or GE port, VLAN, and deliver the connection at all ends.

Annual Any2 Meeting Details Announced – Don’t Miss This Opportunity to Network With the Community

September 17, 2009 at 12:07 pm

Here is an update on the annual Any2 meeting:

  • Date: Thursday, October 8th
  • Time: 3-6 PM (Any2 Meeting), 6-9 PM (Executive Networking Event)
  • Meeting Venue: Garden Court Hotel (downtown Palo Alto)
  • Networking Event Venue: Melt Ultra Lounge (downtown Palo Alto)
  • Event Landing Page (RSVPs): www.CoreSite.com/BayAreaEvent.php

Employees from Any2 participant organizations are encouraged to attend, along with those interested in peering on Any2 from new organizations.

The event is complimentary and you are welcome to bring a guest.

The agenda for the meeting portion will be released soon.  Generally speaking, we will introduce the Any2 executive team, go over Any2 updates, have an open forum discussion, several guest speakers, and most importantly, peering-specific networking where members can make new relationships.

The networking event following the Any2 meeting will be open to a wider audience of all Any2 participants as well as executives from our data center customers and prospects.  This will be an excellent forum to speak with organizations who may have space with CoreSite in the Bay Area, but are not currently on Any2.

At the end of the day, it is going to be a relaxed atmosphere, where you can enjoy some good beverages, meet new people, talk shop, and purely have an excellent Thursday evening.

We are working on discounted hotel rooms for anyone wanting to make the trip up from LA or other locations.

Please visit the event landing page at http://www.CoreSite.com/BayAreaEvent.php to RSVP and for additional information.

If you have special requests or prefer to communicate via email, please reach out to Any2@CoreSite.com or to me directly at Mark.Jobson@CoreSite.com.

Keith Kuhlman | CoreSite IT Director – A Few Words on Any2

August 31, 2009 at 10:36 am

Written by: Keith Kuhlman | CoreSite IT Director

Looking across the network, there has been quite a bit of growth on Any2 since my last involvement.  We now have 2.5 GBs across the 10 GB wavelength from LA to the Bay Area.  The San Jose VLAN, for those wishing to peer locally, has gained traction with several Gigabits of local traffic.  Any2 Northeast looks to be off to a great start as well.  If you are interested in becoming a charter member of Any2 Northeast, please contact us at Any2@CoreSite.com.

Any2 Northeast Exchange Update

We are close to final implementation of our 10 GB connection between our 32 Avenue of the Americas data center in New York to our 1275 K Street data center in Washington, DC, which is then connected to our Reston, VA data center.  It will be very exciting to see the three data centers connected.

Jerome Favis on Vacation: 9/3-9/11

Please note that  Jerome Favis, CoreSite Senior Network Engineer, will be on vacation from September 3-11.  For some reason, Jerome always vacations in exotic destinations where his phone does not work.  Never fear, we have everything covered to ensure your needs will be met during his absence.  Please forward any email you would normally send to Jerome directly to Any2@CoreSite.com and your communication will be routed to the corresponding CoreSite employee.

Happy Labor Day!

CoreSite Wishes John Savageau Well

August 14, 2009 at 11:12 am

I regret to inform the Any2 community that John Savageau is no longer with CoreSite at this time.

As many of you know, John accomplished some great things, specifically as the architect of the Any2, while at CoreSite/CRG West and we are thankful for those contributions.

Dominic Tobin – CoreSite VP of Operations, as well as Jerome Favis will continue to oversee all Any2 related items as they have since early February 2009. Therefore, if you normally filtered questions and comments through John, please direct them to both Dominic and Jerome via the Any2@CoreSite.com e-mail address. Dominic and Jerome will continue to work hard to ensure all of your needs are met and that Any2’s performance and member count continue to grow.

The Any2 blog will move forward, providing everyone with new member additions, performance updates, and other news as it relates to the community. In the interim, posts will come from Dominic, Jerome and other CoreSite employees.

Everyone at CoreSite wants to reiterate that we remain committed to growing the Any2, as witnessed by the implementation of Any2 Northeast earlier this year. Even more so, we want to keep the Any2 culture, welcoming open participant feedback and interaction.

As was stated in John’s most recent post, we encourage Any2 participants to still submit an article for the upcoming CoreSite newsletter. Please send the content to Mark Jobson, Marketing Director, at Mark.Jobson@CoreSite.com. Articles will be reviewed and placed on a first-come basis.

Discussions regarding the October Any2 Participant Meeting are underway and as soon as the particulars are in order, we will let you all know.

We all wish John well as he pursues the cloud and other items of his passion. His vision and demeanor will be missed, but we are confident that his name will surface again attached to the cloud community and more than likely in a role that will directly shape the future of that industry.

Denver, CO – August 14, 2009 – National data center, colocation and peering provider CoreSite announced today that Chief Technology Officer John Savageau is no longer with the company.

Mr. Savageau joined CoreSite in 2004 and has contributed meaningfully to the company’s growth and advancements since that time. In addition to building the company’s operations team, Mr. Savageau was the architect and evangelist of Any2, CoreSite’s Internet exchange, and the company’s distributed exchange network.

Dominic Tobin, CoreSite’s VP of Operations, will continue to oversee the operation of Any2 and our distributed exchange as he has done since February of 2009. Mr. Tobin and his staff will also continue to oversee and improve the performance of Any2, which has become one of the most densely populated peering platforms in the United States. CoreSite will continue to invest in the technological development and geographic expansion of Any2.

Mr. Savageau leaves CoreSite to devote more time to thought leadership and the development of cloud computing initiatives. CoreSite looks forward to opportunities to collaborate with Mr. Savageau in his private endeavors in these areas. In addition, CoreSite will continue to develop its Cloud Innovation Center for Excellence (CICE) and explore opportunities to provide a utility for cloud computing companies in CoreSite data centers.

“Each of us at CoreSite thanks John for his years of outstanding service and lasting contributions to the company,” commented Thomas M. RayCoreSite President and CEO. “CoreSite and its customers are better for John’s time with our company and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”
