Reports To: Telecommunications Supervisor
Status: Regular, Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Role:
As a member of the company’s Operations team, the Telecom Tech will be responsible for carrying out day to day operations under the direction of the Operations Supervisor or Manager within their geographic or organizational area of responsibility.
Duties:
- Responsible to pull, terminate, document and test copper and fiber circuits
- Install overhead cable tray, cages, racks and equipment
- To perform and complete work orders and customer service tickets in a timely manner
- Observe and oversee contractors performing data center maintenances
- Provide day-to-day customer support
- This position is considered a working technician position, and will require approximately 90% of the technician’s time dedicated to technical duties.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Familiar with telecommunication tools, power tools, ticketing systems, and escalation procedures
- Knowledge of T-1, DS-3 and fiber testing procedures and equipment
- Knowledge of BICSCI standards and cable management techniques
- Familiar with data center environmental characteristics and controls
- Excellent customer interaction skills
- Good troubleshooting skills
- Willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment
- Proven ability to work independently
- Strong communication skills
- Schedule flexibility with ability to work non-standard business hours
- Exhibits a strong work ethic and accountability to deadlines
Education/Experience:
- The technician should have at least 3 years experience in the telecommunications industry
