A cross connection is an “A-Z” connection over copper (CAT-5/6), coaxial or fiber (single or multi-mode) media. CoreSite provides its customers with the ability to connect to any customer or carrier within its data centers passively or through a switched-multiplexed service. Cross connections have a provisioned bit rate for both intra-data center and inter-data center transmissions.
CoreSite intra-data center Ethernet connectivity is provided via a combination of core and edge switches. Electrical signals coming from customers to other customers or carriers, such as the case of a DS-1, are limited to approximately 350 linear feet of transmission medium. For distances greater than 350 feet, CoreSite converts the electronic signal over fiber optics, connecting higher order Telco-grade multiplexers or media converters.
At some data centers, CoreSite offers inter-data center connectivity through Ethernet and SONET/TDM interconnection services within a metro market. CoreSite’s network policy when interconnecting data centers is to use diverse, dark fiber (DF) pairs connected to separate Dense Wave Division Multiplexer (DWDM) line cards on a single DWDM chassis.
Cross connections may be ordered by approved customer personnel only, via MyCoreSite. MyCoreSite is CoreSite’s secure, online customer portal accessible 24-hours a day via any Internet connection.
