CoreSite is one of the few colocation providers to offer a usage-based power model. Historically, colocation providers charged customers a fixed monthly cost for power circuits under a model known as breakered-amp pricing. Under this model, Customers paid the same monthly fee whether they were drawing 10% of a circuit’s potential or 80%. Wholesale data center providers followed the traditional real-estate model of sub-metering power usage of their tenants; however, most colocation providers declined to follow suit. In 2007 CoreSite was among the few industry leaders that began to offer customers the ability to pay only for the power they use.
Key to usage-based power is the requirement to provide real-time information to our customers. Through each customer’s secure MyCoreSite account on our on-line customer portal, a customer can view its current and historical consumption of electricity with granularity down to an individual circuit.
For customers desiring a predictable monthly bill, CoreSite offers traditional breakered amp pricing model at all of our data centers.
