AWS Direct Connect

Optimize Your Hybrid IT Environment with Direct Cloud Connection

Choose the Fast Lane Into AWS

AWS Direct Connect, a dedicated network connection, allows you to connect your CoreSite on-premises infrastructure and AWS directly within our data centers. This secure, native onramp extends your IT operations into the cloud, where you can take advantage of data storage or run production workloads.

Why risk using the public internet when this alternative delivers high-value outcomes? Achieve optimal network performance based on private, low-latency connectivity, reduce data transfer costs and improve security.

Access AWS in all CoreSite markets, through direct fiber or a network partner.

Direct connection to AWS enables you to innovate, accelerate time to market, integrate AI – and be ready for the future. It’s a multicloud world. Public cloud is, and always will be, one part of your distributed infrastructure. Deploying services in AWS helps create an architecture that elevates performance, increases visibility and improves data manageability.

Taking advantage of AWS Direct Connect offers a bundle of positive outcomes. Geographic proximity to AWS compute nodes in-region provides fewer network hops, offering up to 44% reduced latency.* In addition to lowering overall network costs, expect to save 60%-70% on data egress rates by connecting directly to AWS through a CoreSite data center.**

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS AN AWS DIRECT CONNECT EDGE NODE? Edge nodes are the locations at which AWS Direct Connect partners provide connectivity between their network infrastructure and the AWS global network.
HOW AWS DIRECT CONNECT COMPARE TO AN INTERNET-BASED CONNECTION TO AWS? A dedicated, private edge link into AWS regions bypasses the public internet and offers ultra-low latency, reduced data transfer costs, improved security and consistent network performance. Alternatively, public internet is unsecure and congested, creating risk to data and network performance variability.
WHEN IS DIRECT CONNECT COMMONLY USED? Enterprises use Amazon Direct Connect to establish high-bandwidth connections to their AWS resources. Operations may include data migration, data transfers and hybrid cloud.
HOW DOES DIRECT CONNECT IMPROVE ENTERPRISE RESILIENCE? Users can create redundant connections to multiple Amazon Direct Connect locations.
HOW DOES THE AWS DIRECT CONNECTION SUPPORT DISASTER RECOVERY? The solution improves enterprise resilience and continuity through a dedicated, reliable connection through which to transfer data.
WHAT IS AN AWS DIRECT CONNECTION LINK AGGREGATION GROUP (LAG)? A LAG is a logical interface that uses the Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) to aggregate multiple connections at one Direct Connect endpoint. These multiple connections can be treated as a single managed connection, which streamlines configuration. A LAG can be created by aggregating existing connections or by provisioning new connections.
