Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS AN INTERCONNECT GATEWAY? An interconnect gateway is a device or software that enables data exchange among networks, systems and devices. The gateway facilitates connectivity and interoperability by translating communication protocols and adapting them as needed to support data exchange.
WHAT TYPES OF NETWORKS DO INTERCONNECT GATEWAYS SUPPORT? Local area networks, wide area networks and wired/wireless networks. They also connect traditional and cloud-based networks.
WHAT ROLE DO INTERCONNECT GATEWAYS PLAY IN CLOUD INTERGRATION? They can integrate on-premises networks and cloud platforms. This supports hybrid and multicloud IT strategies.
HOW DO INTERCONNECT GATEWAYS ENHANCE APPLICATION PERFORMANCE? Interconnect gateways translate diverse communication protocols and put the data into a form that’s friendly to the receiving network or system, streamlining handoffs. If a gateway is capable of traffic management, it makes bandwidth decisions based on application requirements. Some gateways compress and decompress data to minimize bandwidth use, and some gateways provide load balancing and deduplication capabilities.
DO INTERCONECT GATEWAYS SUPPORT HYBRID APPLICATIONS? Yes. Enterprises can support hybrid models, in which some application components run on-premises and some run in the cloud.
HOW DO INTERCONNECT GATEWAYS REDUCE NETWORK LATENCY? Many of the same capabilities that enhance application performance also contribute to reduced network latency: efficient protocol translation, data compression and load balancing. Other functions that help to reduce network latency include prioritizing critical or time-sensitive data transmission, route selection and local data caching.
